Five killed, 3 injured as passenger train rams trekker

Sambalpur, Apr 27 (UNI) Five people were killed and three injured when the Bilaspur-Kantabanji passenger train hit a trekker at an unmanned level crossing between Barpali and Dungerpali, about 70 kms from here today.

Police said the mishap took place at about 1730 hours when the trekker driver was trying to cross the track without noticing the passenger train approaching.

While, three passengers of the trekker died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries at the Barpali Hospital.Three others injured in the tragic incident had been admitted in the Hospital.

Senior railway officials from the Sambalpur Division have rushed to the accident site. The vehicle was completely damaged in the accident.
