Father donates organs of his brain dead 10 year-old daughter
Chennai, Apr 27 (UNI) In a noble gesture, a middle aged north Indian business man settled here has donated the kidneys and liver of his ten year-old daughter, who was declared brain dead by doctors.
The businessman's good deed has given fresh lease on life to two men.
Mr Mahaveer, the father of the deceased girl Disha said his daughter had been suffering from brain tumour for the last one year and taking regular treatment at the private Kumaran Hospital in the city.
On Wednesday last, the girl was declared brain dead, following which some paramedical staff at the hospital approached him for organ donation, especially the kidneys and liver.
After consulting his family members he agreed to donate the organs. ''Anyway my daughter is no more. Atleast the donation, could save two lives'', he said, breaking into tears before the newspersons.
He averred that society as a whole should realise the impact of organ donation and people should come forward in large numbers.
He said, the donation also means that his daughter would be alive through two adults.
A team of doctors led by Dr R P Shanmugam and Executive Director of the hospital removed the child's kidneys and transplanted them to a 42 year-old 'purohit' Suriyanarayanan of Chennai who had been suffering from renal failure.
They said the girl's liver was sent to Delhi to be transplanted to a 55 year-old business man Mun Mun Gupta. Both the recipients were recovering well.
