CPI padayatra against bauxite mining

Visakhapatnam, Apr 27 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today launched a padayatra from agency tribal hamlet Sileru in the district and East Godavari border area to drum up support against bauxite mining and the proposed Alumina Refinery at Makavaripalem by a foreign company.

CPI District Secretary J V Satyanaryana Murthy and Chintapalle MLA G Demudu led the padayatra. Another padayatra accompanied by a cultural troupe was held from Balampam Chintapalle agency area to educate tribals on the adverse impact of bauxite mining in Jurala and Saparla block of hills in the Eastern Ghats.

Mr Satyanarayana Murthy said the state government was planning to extract bauxite ore from Jurala and Saparla for the Alumina Refinery proposed by a member nation of United Arab Emirates. The raw material would be sourced from Galikonda and Raktakonda in Anantagiri Mandal for Jindal's refinery coming up at S Kota in Vizianagaram District.
