Vadodara, Apr 27 (UNI) A local court has directed the Detection Crime Branch (DCB) to investigate into allegations by a woman here that her husband was beaten to death by four policemen.

The man had died in a hospital in September 2005, and the woman has alleged that the doctor, attending upon her husband, had failed to discharge his lawful duties. The court has directed the DCB to probe the doctor's role too.

Police inspector Bhagirathsingh Jadeja and three other police officials had visited Govindbhai Fakirbhai Kahar's residence and had asked him to accompany them to the police station in connection with an inquiry. However, Govindbhai refused to accompany them saying he was observing a fast and would visit the police station after breaking the same.

But, the officials were not ready to listen and they allegedly beat him up severely and, then left.

Govindbhai's wife Laxmiben took him to the 'Muslim Medical Centre' where Dr Amit Shah was called upon to treat the patient.

However, Govindbhai died within half-an-hour.

But, Dr Shah did not report the death to the police nor did he suggest a post-mortem of the body.

Laxmiben approached the DIG, the then police commissioner, and also the Human Rights Commission for justice. She also appealed to Home Minister.

However, her pleas failed to evoke any response and she finally approached the court directly today. The court, taking cognisance of her plea, has asked the DCB to investigate into the woman's allegations against the four policemen and the doctor.
