Congress bags two MLC seats

Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 27 (UNI) Two candidates, including an independent-supported by Congress were declared elected to the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) seats from the local bodies constituency in Chittoor district today.

K Jayachandra Naidu (Congress) and R Reddppa Reddy (independent) supported by Congress secured 374 votes each against 371 votes by their nearest rival Telugu Desam Party rival B Rajasimhulu.

Of the 1,129 votes polled in the elections, 10 votes were declared invalid.

The counting was held amid tight security at the PVKN Degree College here.

After conducting an enquiry, the Election Commission suspended the counting of votes polled in March 17 election, following complaints that some MLAs forced their partymen to openly cast their votes.
