Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 27: Mr G V Seshu, Congress nominee for Member of Legislature Council (MLC) seat from local bodies constituency, was declared elected with a majority of 300 votes here today.

Mr Seshu secured 612 votes as against 302 votes by his nearest rival V Raghavulu, an independent supported by the Telugu Desam Party and 93 Backward Castes joint forum.

The counting was taken up amidst tight security in the presence of Mr Suresh Sharma, Municipal Director for Administration.

The Election Commission, which held an inquiry into charges of casting open ballots in Vetapalam, had ordered repoll in the polling booth on April 25 and withheld counting of votes polled in other booths.
