Attempt to rob Hundi in temple

Rameswaram, April 27 (UNI) A gang of unidentified robbers made an attempt to break-open the Hundi in the precincts of the Ramanathaswamy temple here last night but their efforts went in vain.

Police said they broke two locks of the hundi with razors. But they could not succeed in breaking the third lock. Then they escaped unnoticed.

A special police team rushed to the spot with fingerprint experts and observed the situation.

Only three guards were on duty when the incident took place, out of the total eight guards in service.

The temple was in need of a minimum of 16 guards for safeguarding the temple.

Investigation was underway, police added.
