Vishvesha Thirtha Swamiji calls for a code of conduct

Udupi, Apr 26 (UNI) Vishvesha Thirtha Swamiji of Udupi Pejavar Mutt today stressed that there was an urgent need for heads of all religion to sit and discuss together for drawing a code of conduct and arrive at mutual understanding so that the people of all religion could live without fear.

Speaking at a function organized to celebrate his 77th Birthday here, he called upon the government to respond positively and create an environment to reach at such mutual understanding between religions and castes. "Fear was the origin for all existing problems including growing fundamentalism, terrorism and communal conflicts and violence in the society. When the fear which had hidden in the minds of the people giving space to distrust was removed, peace and mutual trust could be established automatically", he added.

Swamiji urged that everyone should function in his own area without trespassing into others field. Deep apprehension of trespassing by others into their affairs was the route cause for all problems existed in the society.

The pontiff said that laws should be based on the reformation and not vice-versa. The laws in the hands of the rulers would be like stick in the hands of a blind which in normal situation would hit the innocent while culprits are escaped. The great saint and philosopher Sri Madhwacharya had taught two important aspects of devotion to god and service to humankind which should be the prime duty of every individual. Devotion to god would enhance the morality and good quality, he added.

The swamiji on the occasion, conferred the first "Vijayashree" award to former Chief Minister and literature M Veerappa Moily.

Eleven other eminent personalities were also conferred with "Sri Rama" awards.

Replying to the felicitation, Mr Moily called upon nurturing quality which was more important than nature. "Opportunity should be available to everyone without discrimination or denial. Our country had talent of ocean and what required was identification of those talents to provide opportunities", he added.
