ULFA's 27th battalion camp busted

Guwahati, Apr 26 (UNI) The Army today claimed that it had eliminated ULFA's 27th battalion, active in the hill district of Karbi Anglong, in a raid in its hideout recently.

A defence source said acting on military intelligence, a joint team of Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts and 11 J&K Rifles had arrested five hardcore ULFA militants and one KLNLF militant on April 20.

Based on the information received during the interrogation of the nabbed militants, the joint team raided the 27th battalion's office in Singhachan Hills.

The six rebels confessed that they had been inmates of the camp and were on their way to Baithlangso when they were arrested.

However, the militants had fled the hideout before the security team reached the spot and no one was arrested.

One M 16 rifle, 20 gelatin sticks, 45 detonators, 50 metre electric wire with initiator, other bombs and IED assembling material, live ammunition and other stocks were recovered from the camp.

The source also said that incriminating documents were seized from the camp, which contained vital clues and could prove crucial in the future.
