Three of a family given life

Jamtara, Apr 26 (UNI) A local court in Jharkhand's Jamtara district today sentenced three persons of a family, including a couple, to life imprisonment in connection with a murder committed on the pretext of illicit affair.

On July 29, 2003, Basanti Devi's husband Mahavir Kumbhkar and brother-in-law Prakash Kumbhkar of Kundaridangal village under Mihijam police station murdered her former lover Ajit Das.

Basanti, who had once eloped with Ajit, later compromised with her husband. They hatched a plan and accordingly Ajit was called to Basanti's mother's place before the murder was executed.

Police later recovered Ajit's mutilated body and registered a case.

Fifth Additional District and Sessions Judge Babita Prasad sentenced the trio to life imprisonment.
