Tension grips AMU over student's murder

Aligarh, Apr 26: Tension today gripped the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) when over 500 students went on a rampage, following the murder of a student inside the campus.

The protest came as a retaliation to the murder of Kaushar Salik Mazhar, who was shot dead by an unidentified miscreant late last night, police said.

Agitated by the incident, the students vandalised the university property and demanded quick arrest of the accused.

Later, they also thrashed AMU proctor Eklakh Ahmed, who was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

The mob could only be pacified after police reached the spot.

Meanwhile, a large number of police personnel have been deployed to avoid any fresh violance.
