Sub Treasury officer caught redhanded

Bangalore, Apr 26 (UNI) A Sub Treasury Officer of Harapanahalli, in Davanagere District of Karnataka, was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta officials while accepting a bribe for an official favour.

According to Lokayukta release here today, N Poorvachar demanded Rs 7,500 from M Halappa, second division assistant in the Primary Health Centre, Arasikere, for giving his TA bill cheque.

Mr Halappa had agreed to give the amount after getting the cheque.

As Mr Halappa did not pay the bribe amount, Mr Poorvachar stopped the salary bill for the month of March 2007, demanding the amount.

On a complaint from Halappa, Lokayukta officials laid a trap and arrested Poorvachar while accepting the bribe yesterday.

He was remanded in judicial custody, the release added.
