Student bodies rally for Delimitation at Dimapur

Kohima, Apr 26 (UNI) Several students' unions from various districts of Nagaland organised a rally at Dimapur to demand total implementation of the Delimitation Act, 2002, based on tribal population.

Braving the intermittent drizzle, the confederation of Students Unions of Wokha, Peren, Longleng, Kiphire, Tseminyu and Chakhro Angami of Dimapur district met at the ''City Tower'' of the town to register their protest yesterday, as the delegation of the Delimitation Commission of India arrived in the town.

The Secretary of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Idailung Thou, protested the ''delaying tactics'' of the State Government and said it was the duty of the state government, Delimitation Commission and the Associate Members to carry out the Delimitation exercise in letter and spirit for the just implementation of delimitation to provide equal opportunity and equal representation of the Naga tribes.

He also accused Nagaland Commissioner T N Mannen of failing in providing guidelines to the government.

President of the Zeliangrong Students Union, Nagaland Lungchui, in his speech said all Nagas were equal and every Naga had the right to be equally represented and this could be possible only when the existing imbalances in representation were balanced through just and impartial implementation of the Delimitation Act, 2002 as amended in 2003.
