SSKU and police in scuffle at HM

Kolkata, Apr 26 (UNI) Hind Motors continued to simmer as the police resorted to mild lathi charge to restore normalcy when the workers' union stopped a container from going out of the factory.

The Sangrami Shramik Karmachari Union (SSKU), a conglomerate of workers' unions like--- AITUC and INTUC-- today again had a sit-in demonstration before the factory gate and later obstructed a container from going out.

Soon after a section of the agitating workers were engaged in a scuffle with the police which resorted to a mild lathi charge to quell the protestors.

Later eight containers loaded with goods went out of the factory and three empty containers entered it.

Last night West Bengal Labour Minister Mrinal Banerjee placed three-point solution to end the six-week-long Hindustan Motors (HM) imbroglio, even as the Sangrami Shramik Karmachari Union (SSKU) turned down the offer.

The tripartite meeting to end the deadlock was attended by the HM management, representatives of the unions, besides Mr Banerjee on behalf of the state government.

Mr Banerjee said issues like DA and transfer figured in the discussion within 15 days, adding salary pending for the past 44 days would be cleared.

In the past six weeks, ever since the agitation started at Uttarpara, Hindustan Motors' management had reiterated that issues like restoration of law &order was important for the negotiations.
