Sony launches PlayStation3 at Rs 39,990
New Delhi, Apr 26: Japanese electronics giant Sony today launched its much-awaited gaming console 'PlayStation3' with a 60 GB memory in India, to compete with Microsoft's Xbox 360.
The PS3 is priced at Rs 39,990 and will be available in a built in wi-fi adaptor and multiple memory card slot.
''We recognise the high potential of India and we aim to sell 10 thousands units of playStation3 in the fiscal 2007-08.
We will invest half a million dollars for the advertising ,'' Sony India Managing Director Masaru Tawagawa told reporters here.
Consoles, online, multiplayer, casual and mobile games are expected to generate more than 100 million dollars for the Indian gaming industry in 2006-07, according to a KPMG report.
From multinationals like Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo to domestic players like Indiagames, Paradox Studios, Hungama, Mauj Telecom and Dhruva Interactive have a presence in the growing Indian gaming industry.
