Six killed, 15 hurt in Baghdad car bomb: Police

Baghdad, Apr 26: At least six people were killed and another 15 wounded in a car bomb blast in the Jadriya district of southern Baghdad today, police and Interior Ministry sources said.

The Interior Ministry source said the car carrying the bomb was parked on the street between Baghdad University and the Al-Hamra Hotel in the religiously mixed neighbourhood.

Many nearby vehicles were burning, police said.

US and Iraqi troops have launched a security crackdown in Baghdad since mid-February to try to drag Iraq back from the brink of all-out sectarian civil war between majority Shi'ites and once-dominant Sunni Arabs.

Earlier today, a roadside bomb killed two people and wounded 10 near the Shorja market in central Baghdad, police said.
