Baripada, Apr 26 (UNI) Police have seized a gunny bag containing six human skulls from a reservoir of Haldia Dam Medium Irrigation Project retrieved by a youth during fishing inside the dam.

Officer-in-Charge of Chandua police station Jogeswar Mohanta yesterday seized the gunny bag recovered by one Kanda Nayak, a tribal of Haladia village on Tuesday last.

Police said Kanda was delighted when his fishing rod struck a heavy object inside the deep water. Initially, he mistook it to be a big fish but his hopes were soon shattered when he walked down into waist-deep water of the reservoir and discovered that his fishing rod had hit a gunny bag containing six human skulls.

On being informed, the police swung into action and started investigation into the mysterious discovery of six human skulls from the reservoir.

Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police S K Singh told UNI here today that a cremation ground was located near the reservoir.

He further said it could be the handiwork of some tantriks, adding that the police were looking into all possible angles. The SP, however, refuted the theory of skull smuggling racket operating in the region.

Mr Singh said so far there was no evidence on this score as nobody had gone missing from the area in recent years.
