SECL earns Rs 1795 cr profit

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Apr 26 (UNI) The South Eastern Coalfields Limited contributed Rs 387 crore towards a total of Rs 1500 crore dividend paid to the Government of India by Coal India Limited for the fiscal 2006-07.

SECL, a subsidiary of CIL, earned profit before tax of Rs 1795 crore, while all subsidiary companies of CIL earned profit last year, official sources said.

The Government of India held Rs 6316 crore equity in the public sector undertaking. CIL Chairman P S Bhattacharya presented cheques for Rs 1500 crore in two instalments towards dividend to Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayana Rao, the sources added.
