Rescue operations on to save child trapped in borewell

Raichur, Karnataka, Apr 25 (UNI) Massive rescue operations are still on to save the eight-year-old boy, who is trapped in a 60 feet abandoned open borewell at Neermanvi village here.

The victim, Sandeep, fell into the borewell while trying to climb a tractor tiller yesterday morning. He was trapped at a depth of 36 feet.

Initially, though the tractor driver and some others tried to save the boy with a rope, but they failed.

The experts of Hutti gold mines at the scene had been digging up a pit parallel to the borewell.

The rescue team plans to dig a 36 feet pit parallel to the borewell and horizontally dig a hole to reach the boy.

A police officer at the site said the rescue team had managed to reach four feet away from the boy and it would take another two to three hours to complete the operation and retrieve the boy.

Meanwhile, the oxygen was being supplied into borewell continuously and a team of doctors was supervising it.

The witness said the boy responded till 5 pm yesterday and since then there was no response from the boy.

The doctors said the boy might be in a state of deep shock or unconscious.

Inspector General of Police R K Datta, MLA of Malvi visited the area and consoled the family.

Meanwhile, a pal of gloom descended on the village as all villagers stood at the site praying for the life of the boy.

The boy's father had lost his two leg in an accident recently and his mother is said to be a cancer patient.
