Punjab to set up Special Narcotic Control Cells
Chandigarh, Apr 26 (UNI) To curb the menace of drug trafficking in the state, Punjab Police has set up Special Narcotic Control cells in all the districts in the state, NPS Aulakh, DGP, Punjab said here today.
''The state police was committed to curbing this menace of easy availability of narcotics which is ruining the youth of the state,'' Mr Aulakh said after presiding over the first meeting to review the crime and law and order situation in the state.
The police chief also expressed concern about instances of fraud by travel agents, PNDT cases and bank robberies, especially in Doaba region, in the state and told the officials to keep a strict vigil in their areas to detect presence of unscrupulous and criminal elements.
The DGP also directed the officials to hold the Monday parades in all police lines, to strictly adhere to the police rules regarding the prevention and detection of Crime and general policing, to be more accessible to the public and extend proper courtesy to the elected public representatives.
Taking a serious note of instances of bank robberies particularly in Doaba region, he directed the police officials to liaison with banks for prevention or detection of such instances in future and enhance police patrolling to instill the feeling of security among the public.
The DGP also urged the field officers to regularly inspect the police stations with a view to ensuring that the records were updated timely.
While showing deep concern on the poor rate of detection and conviction in PNDT Act cases, he asked them to provide timely inputs and back up support to Civil Surgeons to crackdown on doctors engaged in female foeticide adding that the inquiry should assigned only to a gazetted rank officers.
On the issue of large number of absconders and proclaimed offenders in the state, the DGP asked them to launch special campaigns to nab such fugitives.
He also cautioned his officers about the detention of women and wanted total compliance of the detailed instructions issued earlier in this regard.
