Punjab Government evolves three tier strategy for power

Patiala, Apr 26 (UNI) Punjab Minister for Cooperation and Defence Welfare Capt Kanwaljit Singh said here today that state government had evolved three-tier strategy to provide power in the state.

Addressing a press conference here today, Capt Singh said that in short term planning PSEB has been authorised to purchase power from different states that have surplus power and will be made available to the farmers in the peak paddy season.

He said that for this state government has enhanced buying limit of PSEB to Rs 11000 crore as compared to 8000 crore in previous year. He said that PSEB will specially buy power for paddy season to the tune of Rs 3000 crore.

Capt Singh said that in medium term policy, state government has made all out effort to complete Lehra Mohabbat stage II and after its completion in October this year Punjab will have additional power of 500 MW in its kitty.

Regarding setting up of more thermal power projects and ultra super power thermal projects in the state in the long term, he said PSEB had issued notice for expression of interest to setup two thermal power projects of 1200MW each at Nabha and Talwandi Sabo, which will be completed in next four years.
