Bangalore, Apr 26: Keeping in line with its global Information Technology strategy, Philips today announced the opening of its Business Application Services (P-BAS) Centre at the Philips Innovation Campus here.

P-BAS, Bangalore, would be a SAP competency centre providing Enterprise Resource Planning services to all product divisions and partners besides supporting various business lines and service lines within P-BAS Center in Eindhoven, CEO P-BAS Andreas Schumm told newsmen here.

Currently staffed with 35 engineers, PBAS was expected to grow into a 150 strong centre by the end of the year and would be involved in high end work. Mr Schumm said PBAS would continue to work with its existing vendor base even after growing its in house team. The Bangalore centre would play a key role in IT solutions and IT service delivery for Philips worldwide.

Mr Schumm said Bangalore was one of the strategic centres for Philips IT, especially for business application services. Philips was committed in transforming Bangalore into a global sourcing centre for Business application services. A vast amount of work would get transferred from PBAS Eindhoven to Bangalore as part of this strategy.

Compared to other centres including Chennai and Mumbai, Bangalore was chosen as the preferred destination for the first PBAs centre in India as it scored better in terms of talent pool, employment retention, quality of life and political support, he said adding that the presence of Philips in Bangalore was stronger in comparison to other cities.
