People protest against custodial death

Jammu, Apr 26 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today attached to the Lines the Karara police post in-charge in Doda district following the death of a youth, allegedly by third degree torture in his custody even as the angry people staged protest demonstration.

''Sub Inspector Irfan Wani was attached to the police lines,'' Deputy Inspector General (Doda-Udhampur) L T Mohanty confirmed to UNI.

Protesting against the police action people blocked the traffic movement and damaged several vehicles at Doda-Kishtwar highway this morning, sources said.

District police had reportedly arrested one Hrishi Kumar Singh on April 20 in some criminal case and brought him to Karara police post. He was allegedly beaten up mercilessly by police during the three days interrogation, which led to his death at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu on Tuesday night.

''When my son got unconscious police admitted him in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu on April 22 night'' where he died on Tuesday night, his father Mr Fulail Singh said.

The news of a local youth's death spread like a wild fire in his native village Kundi Chiralla as villagers along with family members took to the streets.
