Mittal reaffirms commitment on mega steel project in J'khand

Ranchi, Apr 26 (UNI) A high-level delegation of the steel major Mittal-Arcelor today called on Chief Minister Madhu Koda to reaffirm their commitment towards the proposed mega steel project in Jharkhand.

The three-member delegation led by Project India's Chief Executive Officer Sanak Mishra after the meeting with the Chief Minister told newsmen here that they still stood by the MoU on their proposed 12 million tonne capacity project in the state.

Mr Mishra also clarified that the Mittal group had not 'given up' adding that they were ready to begin the project soon after the government gives a nod.

Regarding the Mittal group's stand on Chiria mines, Asia's biggest iron ore mines, Mr Mishra said the matter was under subjudice.

Managing Director (iron ore) M P Singh and General Manager (mines) P S Prasad also accompanied Mr Mishra while Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sukhdev Singh, was present duirng the meeting.

The proposed Rs 40000 crore project continued to be delayed as the Mittal group and the state government failed to arrive at a consensus over the landmines, particularly the Chiria mines.

The steel major had also inked an MoU with the Orissa government to set a plant of same capacity there.
