Make Quality Education Basic Right
New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) The United Progressive Alliance government has been urged to make quality education a fundamental right.
The suggestion came at a round-table held yesterday by Aide et Action attended by activists and experts.
In a statement, the group cited millions of out-of-schoolers and dropouts, especially in disadvantaged-- dalit, adivasi, minority-- sections, and stressed their right to education.
The participants included National Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairman Santa Sinha, Parliament Member Ravi Prakash Verma and professors Farah Farooqui and Shalini Advani.
They criticised ''exclusion of children belonging to dalit, adivasi and minority communities from the perspectives of quality of education.'' They emphasised ''making education a judiciable subject,'' implying a need to punish failures and lapses in implementing rights.
