LS condoles death of former members
New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today condoled the death of four of its former members -- Mr S N Singh, Ms Bonily Khongmen, Mr Ghamandi Lal Bansal and Mr Ram Raghunath Chaudhary.
The members stood in silence for two minutes as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
In his obituary reference, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said Mr Singh, who represented Jhunjhunu constituency of Rajasthan in the Lok Sabha during 1971-77, worked relentlessly for the uplift of rural poor. He passed away on February 17 this year at the age of 81.
He said Ms Khongmen, who died on March 17 this year at the age of 94, was an active Parliamentarian who represented Autonomous Districts Parliamentary Constituency of Asom in the first Lok Sabha during 1952-57. She was a member of the Asom Legislative Assembly during 1946-57.
An able administrator, Ms Khongmen was Chairperson of the Assam Public Service Commission and also Nagaland Public Service Commission and a member of the Union Public Service Commission.
Mr Chatterjee said Mr Bansal was a multi-faceted personality. He was a member of the first Lok Sabha representing the then Jhajjar-Rewari constituency of erstwhile Punjab State. He passed away on March 19 this year at the age of 93 He said Mr Chaudhary, who was a member of the twelfth and thirteenth Lok Sabhas from 1998 to 2004, was an active Parliamentarian, an agriculturist and a well known social worker in Rajasthan. He died on April 6 this year at the age of 74.
