Lower berth for senior citizens, women

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Apr 26 (UNI) Senior citizens, women above 45 years and pregnant women will be entitled for lower berth in trains and this facility will be made available on request from August this year.

A quota of two lower berths in each second class sleeper and third and second air conditioned coaches will be earmarked for this category of passengers from the originating station of the train, a spokesman of the South Eastern Central Railway here said.

This facility will be introduced in phases on an experimental basis for six months from August 1 as a follow-up to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's announcement in this regard in his budget speech, the spokesman said, adding it will be continued after assessing its success.

While reserving tickets, the passengers of above category will have to specify in the reservation slips about travelling alone, while pregnant women will have to submit medical certificate to avail of lower berth, the spokesman added.
