JD (U) criticises Lalu Prasad for justifying emergency

New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United) today condemned Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for justifying the Emergency and said it indicated ''opportunistic character'' of the RJD president.

JD (U) leaders and activists burnt Mr Prasad in effigy here and demonstrated to protest against the Railway Minister's statement justifying the emergency.

Mr Lalu Prasad was himself active in the movement under the leadership of late Jaiprakash Narayan and was in jail for a long time facing many charges against hims, the leaders pointed out.

''Laluji is in the shelter of Ms Sonia Gandhi and is praising Congress while the prominent leaders of the Congress have regretted the emergency,'' they said and condemned the ''opportunistic character of Mr Lalu Prasad.'' JD (U) General Secretary Javed Raza, Secretary General K C Tyagi, MP Ali Anwar, National Secretaries Virendra Singh Bidhuri and Irshad Ahmed, Delhi State President S L Kharia and many other leaders participated in the demonstrations.
