Efforts on to strengthen PRIs, says Pathania

Shimla, Apr 26 (UNI) Efforts are on for strengthening the panchayati raj institutions and local area administration institutes financially, third state Finance Commission Chairman Kuldeep Singh Pathania said.

Presiding over the meeting of chairpersons of zila parishad, nagar panchayats, block samities and pradhans of Shimla and Kinnuar district, he said unless the local bodies were made financially independent, their functioning would not be effective.

Mr Pathania said the Commission had received valuable suggestions from the elected representatives besides the problems being faced by them in discharging their duties.

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Tarun Kapoor and Commission's member secretary D K Sharma were also present on the occasion.
