Dr Kalam given grand ceremonial reception in Athens
Athens, Apr 26 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam, who arrived here last night on a three-day visit to Greece, was given a ceremonial reception at the Presidential Palace today.
Dr Kalam, escorted by Greek President Karlos Ppooulios, inspected the guard of honour, which was followed by national anthems of both the countries.
After the ceremony was over, delegation level talks were held between the two countries at the Palace.
Dr Kalam will have a busy day in the Greek capital today. After his engagements at the Presidential Palace, he would leave for the tomb of unknown soldiers, where he would lay a wreath to pay homage to those killed in the Second World War.
He would also visit Commonwealth War Cemetery. Afterwards, he would visit Greek Parliament, where he will have a meeting with its President Prof Anna Benaki-Pasarouda.
Later in the day, he would leave for Maximos Mansion to meet Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, who will also host a luncheon in honour of the visiting dignitary.
Dr Kalam will also meet Athens Mayor Niketas Kalalamanis at the City Hall.
Prominent among others who will call on the President is Leader of the Opposition George Papadreou.
Dr Kalam will also go to Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy(Eliamep) and deliver an address.
At night, a banquet will be hosted by the Greek President in Dr Kalam's honour.
