Dilip Kumar to be honoured with Phalke Ratna award

Mumbai, Apr 26 (UNI) Legendary actor Dilip Kumar will be honoured with the 'Phalke Ratna' award for his services to the Indian film industry on April 30, the 138th birth anniversary of Dadasaheb Phalke -- the father of Indian cinema.

The thespian is recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest award given by the Government in recognition of the film personalities contribution to cinema.

The actor was a nominee of Dadasaheb Phalke Academy and 36 other cine associations for the 'Phalke Ratna', the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy chairman Satosh Singh Jain said.

Apart from Dilip Kumar, other film personalities to be honoured are actor Jeetendra, actresses Shashikala, Aroona Irani, Kum Kum, Sushila Rani Patel and Amrita Rao, film producer Gulshan Bahl, director Lekh Tandon, Kamal Kumar and Rajkumar Barjatya of Rajshree Productions and Gautam Adhikari for his contribution to the growth of television.

Besides them, film exporters, distributors, exhibitors and other film workers will also be felicitated at a function, to be held at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari (Film City) in suburban Goregaon.

The Academy plans to unveil Phalke's portraits containing his original photos, release of Phalke 'geet mala' (album of five songs) in the current year, he added.
