Delay in bride's arrival leads to cancellation of marriage
Chennai, Apr 26 (UNI) A marriage ceremony of a couple was halted at Pulianthope in the city today when the bridegroom became upset over late arrival of the bride and her family following damage of the vehicle in which they were travelling.
Police said, Velu (25) was engaged to a girl from Seiyur district.
Prior to the ceremony, a reception was arranged last evening at the same venue. The bridegroom stood on the stage eagerly awaiting her arrival. But when the would-be bride and her family did not arrive till 2200 hrs, the dejected Mr Velu reportedly left the place.
Eventually when the girl reached the venue she was shocked to hear the absence of the bridegroom. It was said that the delay occurred due to puncture in the vehicle.
A vigorous search for the bridegroom turned futile as he was not seen anywhere around the place. Mr Velu's relatives, however, expected him to turn up on the morning of the marriage, but their hope ended in vain. Alas, that was not to be.
Following this, the bride's family lodged a complaint with Pulianthope police. They alleged that the groom might have run away owing to his grievances on dowry issue.
Investigation was underway, police added.
