Cong dismisses Purohit's charge on pact with RSS

New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) The Congress today dismissed as ''unbelievable'' the claim by its former Nagpur MP Banwari Lal Purohit that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had forged a secret pact with the RSS to allow 'shilanyas' at Ayodhya in return for its support in the general elections.

''He (Purohit) has changed so many parties that we cannot believe him,'' Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told mediapersons here.

''We do not trust his political loyalty and the BJP, too, should not trust him,'' Mr Singhvi said.

The Congress spokesman said Mr Purohit's versions of the episode have changed as frequently as he changed his parties.

In reply to a question, Mr Singhvi said no foreign country or organisation could influence India's decision in executing the capital punishment to Afzal Guru, convicted in Parliament attack case.

''If any suggestion to this effect has been made by any outside authority, it should purely be taken as its personal opinion,'' he clarified.

Regarding a query on BJP MP Babu Bhai Katara, involved in a human trafficking case, Mr Singhvi said as far his party was concerned it would not support his continuance as a Member of Parliament.

However, he supported the Lok Sabha Speaker's decision to call an all party meet to discuss the issue. ''The BJP's stand on the matter would also be vital,'' he said.
