CM to write to HRD Ministry over 'doubts' on deemed universities

Puducherry, Apr 26 (UNI) The Puducherry administration would once again write to the Union Human Resource Development Ministry to clear doubts over the alleged 'violation of guidelines' while granting deemed university status to two private medical colleges in the Union Territory, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Assembly today.

Replying to a question, Health Minister E Valsaraj said Aarupadai Veedu Medical College here and Vinayaga Mission Medical College, Karaikal were declared as deemed universities. The HRD Ministry in its letter in November 2004 had announced these colleges as deemed universities.

S P Sivakumar (DMK) said a deemed university was not eligible to affiliate any colleges and added that the government had not received any communication from the UGC in this regard.

Mr Valsaraj said the Chief Minister had already written to the HRD Ministry and added that as per the reply from HRD 'there was no violation of guidelines.' Meanwhile, intervening the minister, Mr Rangasamy said in case of any apprehension among the members, the administration would once again write to the HRD Ministry to clear it.
