Cellular operators call for policy for early WiMAX roll-out
New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) The Cellular Operators today urged the government to set up a policy for an early WiMAX roll-out in India.
''As soon as the policy is announced, the WiMAX technology will be deployed by the operators,'' an official spokesperson said here.
The operators, during the Intel WiMAx operator day, also asked for a larger spectrum of upto 30 MHz.
They asked the government to release the 3.4-3.6 MHz bandwidth being considering for Broadband Wireless Acess (BWA) and additional spectrum of 2.5 Ghz for WiMAX.
BWA policy is also awaited by the operators.
The seminar was targeted to get alignment from the two operators Associations -- Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI) for allocating the 2.5 spectrum for the country.
The operators has also urged Intel and the WiMAX forum to take cognizance from the US. India represents a significant and unique market for WiMAX and priortise the creation, certification and availability of fixed and mobile WiMAX equipment around the profiles.
