Bread and Breakfast scheme launched all over country

New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) The Bed and Breakast scheme permitting private house owners to rent out a portion of their accommodation to tourists has been launched all over the country and a pilot project taken up in Delhi,the Lok Sabha was told today, Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni said in a written answer that the main requisite of the scheme was that only those home owners who were able to offer a minimum of one room or a maximum of five rooms of prescribed specification and who were physically residing in houses were eligible to apply for this scheme.

She said the idea behind this scheme was to provide a clean and affordable place for foregin and domestic tourists and an opportunity to stay with an Indian family to experience local customs and traditions and relish authentic local cuisine.

Mrs Soni said altogether 102 applications had been received under the scheme and five approvals had been granted as on December 31, 2006.
