Bihar govt encourages lemon grass farming

Patna, Apr 26 (UNI) The Bihar government would encourage growing of lemon grass, which could be profitable to the farmers, official sources said here today.

The sources said farmers would be able to generate more income by spending less time if they cultivate lemon grass, a medicinal plant, as it could be grown anywhere.

Lemon grass survives for about five years and might be harvested around 120 kg within a year if proper care is taken of the plants.

Moreover, animals do not eat these plants, sources added.

It is grown by 'Slips method' between March and July and the farmers could generate about Rs 25,000 in the first year itself, as it is sold at the rate of Rs 300 per kg.
