Academy for Intellectual Property Rights opens in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Apr 26 (UNI) Marking the World Intellectual Property Day, Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) today opened Y J Trivedi-AMA Academy for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

The objective of IPR is to protect rights of creators or owners of works and at the same time allow general public to access and benefit from such works maintaining a balance between two sides. The law that regulates the creation, use and control of the protected work is popularly known as Intellectual Property Law (IPL), a release issued by AMA here said.

In the liberalised Global environment, IPRs are emerging as key businesses in their own right as there is an increasing awareness of the need to protect applications of ideas and information that are of commercial value.

IPR is now widely acknowledged as an asset that can be bought, sold or licensed. The laws governing IPRs enable owners and investors to protect the asset from unauthorized users. In the developed world, IPR is safeguarded as a property right because it fosters economic growth, provides incentives for technological innovation and attracts investment that will trigger new job opportunities for the societies.

A widespread awareness of IPR and building up of an effective enforcement system is critical for Gujarat, which is a business friendly region.

IPRs are also important for Gujarat as it is seeking foreign investments in order to become a globally competitive manufacturing hub. IPRs can be catalyst for foreign investments as multinationals view the strength of IPR protection in a local economy as an important factor in the investment decision.

AMA is setting up an academy for Intellectual Property Rights sponsored by Mr Y J Trivedi, a leading Patent and Trademark Attorney of the country. His law firm Y J Trivedi and Company is focusing on protecting various intellectual property through registration and legal assistance. The objective of the centre will be to promote an IP culture amongst industry and business.
