30 mega food parks to be set up across India

New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) A total of 30 mega food parks will be set up in different parts of the country and subsidy to the tune of Rs 50 crore will be provided to catalyse investment in them.

This was indicated by minister of food processing Subodh Kant Sahai while jointly chairing a meeting with minister of commerce and industry Kamal Nath on agro-food processing parks here on Tuesday.

Mr Nath said the emergence of food retailing has opened up opportunities for setting up of food parks successfully. However, the infrastructure for evacuation of farm produce needs to be strengthened.

''In future, the back end of retail will be a food park, and the back end of a food park will be a farmer,'' said Mr Nath. He also recalled his recent meetings with Chinese leaders and said the huge import of processed foods by China is an opportunity to be tapped.
