Youth forum urges Prez to ensure OBC quota implementation
New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) A youth body today appealed to President A P J Abdul Kalam to impress upon the Centre to implement the 27 per cent OBC quota reservations.
Doubting the Centre's sincerity in getting the quota implemented, the Youth for Social Justice said the way the UPA government has expressed its helpnessness before the two-judge bench, ''it is quite clear that it was divided on the issue.'' The Supreme Court had on April 23 rejected the Centre's plea to vacate the stay on the implementation of 27 per cent OBC reservation in Central educational institutions.
A Division Bench of Justices Arijit Pasayat and L S Panta, however, said it would examine the Centre's plea for referring the issue to a Constitution.
''Otherwise despite legal luminaries like P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, R K Anand, Abhishek Singhvi and Salman Khursheed, how can the government fail to meet socio-political requirements of the Supreme Court?'' it asked.
Hence, the forum urged the President to intervene in the matter and ensure its implementation.
