Villagers picket police station

Puducherry, Apr 25 (UNI) The villagers of Franswathoppe, whose houses were partially damaged in the recent fire, today picketed the Odeansaalai police station demanding assistance to them also.

Alleging that the administration was taking steps to provide assistance only to the houses gutted in the fire the villagers organised the stir.

Deputy Tahzildhar Suresh Rajan held talks with the agitators and assured the provision of relief to them also, following which the agitation was called off.

Meanwhile, the villagers of Ananthapuram today laid siege to a Pondicherry Road Transport Corporation bus protesting against the failure of the government to operate the bus regularly to their village causing hardship to the people. Senior police offcials held talks with the villagers and released the bus.
