VHP, RPI take out rally
Akola, Maharashtra, Apr 25 (UNI) The VHP and RPI (Athawale) took out a rally to the district police headquarters here, demanding stern action against a person of minority community for allegedly outraging the modesty of a dalit woman on April 20.
On April 20 night, Jamir Khan had allegedly tried to outrage the modesty of the woman, while she was on her way home.
Following the incident, he was allegedly assaulted by four youths in Shivaji Park area here. He was found in an unconscious state next morning. Later, the police arrested three persons, including a dalit woman, for allegedly assaulting him. The trio confessed to the crime, police said.
The agitators, led by Tiwari of VHP and Sunil Avchar of RPI, met deputy superintendent of police Shantaram Waghmare yesterday and threatened that they will resort to an agitation in the district if no action was taken against Khan under sections 354, 294 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Similarly, a Muslim delegation, led by former state minister Azhar Hussain (Congress), also met the DSP and demanded that the case be transferred to other investigating agency. Following which, Mr Waghmare transferred the investigation to the local crime branch.
Meanwhile, the police produced the woman and her two sons Gautam and Gajanan in the Magistrate's court, who released the woman and Gautam on bail, while her second son, being a minor, was sent to remand home, police added.
