Three youths arrested for robbing jewellery

Chennai, Apr 25 (UNI) City police have arrested three teenagers on a charge of taking away jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh from a 60-year-old woman at knifepoint from her residence in the busy Egmore area here.

According to police, Mrs Maya, wife of Sandan Sirani, a leather merchant was alone in the house when her servant Deepak along with his friends Saroj and Sudheesh, entered the flat yesterday.

Wielding a knife, the youths, after tying her hands gagged the woman with a piece of cloth and snatched the key of the steel almirah from her. They removed the valuables from almirah and fled.

Acting swiftly on a complaint from Mr Sirani, a special police team found the trio hiding on a factory premises in suburban Ambattur. The three were planning to escape to their native place in Bihar by train early today.

The team recovered the entire jewellery from them, police added.
