'Surya Kiran' airshow enthrales viewers

Madurai, Apr 25 (UNI) It was an awesome display of daredevilry in the air in a clear sky preceding a perfect sunset that enthralled Maduraiites, who witnessed the first ever airshow in the southern parts of Tamil Nadu.

Thousands of people, with their children, had gathered around the Viraganur Dam-Ring Road junction on the city outskirts to watch the maiden airshow.

The six Surya Kiran jets performed maneuvers that included inverted runs, rolling crosses, precision flying and splits.

Interestingly, with the colour display, one of the jets drew a heart, stealing the hearts of all, which lasted for 20 minutes.

The Madurai skyline was strewn with the tricolour display. The programme was organised to coincide with the platinum jubilee year of the IAF.

The state Transport Corporation had plied special buses for the event and the police made elaborate security arrangements.
