Shilp Shetty spends entire night watching " Bhoota Kola"

Karkala (Udupi district) Apr 25 (UNI) Cine star Shilpa Shetty who came into a limelight through "Big Brother Show" spent last night witnessing " Bhoota Kola" (Demon worshipping, a form of popular Folk Dance drama accompanied by trance) at her mother's residence at Niddodi Mudapady in Karkala Taluk in Udupi district.

Ms Shetty who was in the district since last three days visited her mother's residence where she spent her entire night watching "Jarandaya Kola"(worshipping Jarandaya, a demon) along with her cine star sister Shamitha Shetty and other members of the family.

In an informal chat with newsmen in her mother tongue Tulu language, Shilpa said that preparation to hold Jarandaya Kola was done four months ago before she left for London to participate in the Big Brother Show.

"Niddodi is scared place for us as it is our original place where "Jarandaya Daiva" (the spirit) existed. This is my home town though I lived in Mumbai, she added.

Ms Shilpa dressed in simple yellow chudidar, sporting a Mangalore Jasmine on her head watchedd the Kola with fear and devotion. She welcomed the elders with folded hands enquiring "Encha Ullar" (meaning how are you).

She said that last year in a similar Nemotsava held in her ancestor's house "Moodapaguttu Moolamane" where silver crown and ornaments were offered to "Panjurli Daiva".

She said her sister Shamitha and her mother offered yesterday silver ornaments and silver masks to nine" Parivara Daivas" including Jarandaya Daiva.

After witnessing the kola for full night yesterday, Shilpa and her family received " Prasadam" from the Daiva early morning. She has plans to visit Dharmastala and Subramanya before leaving for Mumbai, she said.
