Srinagar, Apr 25 (UNI) The National Conference (NC), the main opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, today said round table conferences would create confusion and doubts about the Centre's sincerity in resolving the contentious issue.

Addressing a public gathering at Singhpora near Pattan in north Kashmir, senior NC leader Dr Mehboob Beg said talking to mainstream political parties and sidelining the already ''alienated'' section of the society would lead to further alienation.

''Kashmir is a political issue and talking about governance and economic issues is like adding fuel to the fire. The Government of India should start unconditional, time-bound and result-oriented dialogue with the alienated section of the society,'' he added.

Dr Beg said the NC has already passed a unanimous resolution for restoration of internal autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir and presented the document separately to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

''We will continue with our struggle for its autonomy restoration,'' he added.

The NC leader appealed to both India and Pakistan to either pay heavy compensation to the state or scrap the Indus Water Treaty.

The NC would come out with a plan to address the ever-increasing unemployment problem in the state, he added.
