Round-table conf create confusion and doubts: NC
Srinagar, Apr 25: The National Conference (NC), the mainopposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, today said round tableconferences would create confusion and doubts about the Centre'ssincerity in resolving the contentious issue.
Addressing a public gathering at Singhpora near Pattan in northKashmir, senior NC leader Dr Mehboob Beg said talking to mainstreampolitical parties and sidelining the already ''alienated'' section ofthe society would lead to further alienation.
''Kashmir is a political issue and talking about governance andeconomic issues is like adding fuel to the fire. The Government ofIndia should start unconditional, time-bound and result-orienteddialogue with the alienated section of the society,'' he added.
Dr Beg said the NC has already passed a unanimous resolution forrestoration of internal autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir and presented thedocument separately to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and PakistanPresident Pervez Musharraf.
''We will continue with our struggle for its autonomy restoration,'' he added.
The NC leader appealed to both India and Pakistan to either payheavy compensation to the state or scrap the Indus Water Treaty.
The NC would come out with a plan to address the ever-increasing unemployment problem in the state, he added.
