Repolling held peacefully

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 25 (UNI) The repoll to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council was held peacefully in the Municipal Corporation polling station here today.

There were 57 voters, including three MLAs and two MPs. By mid-day, about 95 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise.

Two Congress candidates and one TDP candidate were in the fray.

The Election Commission ordered repoll here, following reports of irregularities and malpractices in the polling held on March 17, 2007.

At the behest of the Election Commission, the police registered a case under Section 171-C IPC against two Congress MLAs for taking control of the polling station and flouting the secrecy of the ballot.
