Chandigarh, Apr 25 (UNI) The Punjab government has decided to install water stand posts in all Dalit colonies, located in 12,000 villages in the state.

Instructions to this effect were issued here today by Public Health minister Birkram Singh Majithia.

Mr Majithia said that the water stand posts would be installed immediately to provide water during the summer season. These stand posts were removed during Congress rule on the plea of conserving potable water.

A delegation of Dalit Mazdoor Sangh had met Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal recently with the request to reintroduce this facility as a majority of the Dalit families could not afford independent domestic connections. .

The minister has asked the Public Health department to conduct a quick survey and reinstall all these stand posts. To check the wastage of water, colony 'Pradhan's' have been authorised to take measures to check leakage and wastage of potable water from stand posts.
