Notices to several hospitals in Kashmir on waste management

Srinagar, Apr 25 (UNI) The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) has issued notices to several hospitals and nursing homes in Kashmir for improper management of bio-medical waste.

Taking strong note of the health hazard of infectious bio-medical waste, the board was contemplating serious action against these healthcare institutions.

The SPCB had recently served notices to those hospitals and nursing homes which have failed to seek authorisation for management of bio-medical waste.

As per the Bio-medical Waste (management and handling) Rules notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, all hospitals, nursing homes or clinical laboratories have to get authorisation from the SPCB and follow certain guidelines for management of bio-medical waste.

The Board has given 15 days to the hospitals and nursing homes to comply with the norms failing which a penal action would be taken against them.
